During the current lock-down period, Low are performing 30 minute live shows on a Friday at 9pm BST on thier instagram. https://www.instagram.com/lowtheband/. A hearty pat on the back for whoever came up with the name "It's Friday, I'm in Low" for these sessions.
I'm assuming there's a fundraising element to these shows (I haven't managed to catch one yet, due to reasons), but it put me in mind of this Record Store Day release from 2013, which covers a Rhianna song for the benefit of Rock for Kids. It's a very faithful cover version, mostly piano and vocals - Mimi doing Rhianna's part and Alan doing Mikky's, with some light drums towards the climax. Nice.
Rhianna - Stay:
Shearwater I'm not familiar with, although I think I used to have something by Okkeril River, which they were an offshoot from. Their cover version is recognisable in tone and lyrical delivery, but instrumentally wildly different, featuring a monotonous chugging guitar and wobbly synth throb towards the end. Interesting, if by no means essential. Their half of the sales benefited the Southern Poverty Law Center.
